DHCPatriot Version 4.2.0 Total DHCP has been released!2009-01-16 16:34:51

DHCPatriot™ version 4.2.0 Total DHCP has been released! We are very excited by this version of the DHCPatriot™ software as it includes a standard DHCP server. What is this you ask? The standard DHCP server allows the DHCPatriot™ system to service DHCP clients that do not need to authenticate. It also supports option 82 based static address assignment, in addition to MAC based address assignment, as well as known client restricted dynamic address assignment. Here is a brief list of spotlighted new features:

  • Full featured Standard DHCP server

  • New authenticated DHCP user Reports:

    • View Static Assignment

    • View Authenticated Users

    • Users using more than one IP address

  • Customization of authentication screens per network

For further information regarding the highlighted features, download the version 4.2.0 feature preview. The updated manual is also available online. Full patch notes are available here.

Version 4.1.3 CALEA (HOTFIX)2008-02-25 09:38:11
It has come to our attention that there is a pretty serious bug in version 4.1.2 CALEA. This bug was not present prior to version 4.1.2 CALEA so only systems running that version are affected. The bug is as follows:

If a customer's RADIUS credentials change, or the customer is suspended in RADIUS (or the DHCPatriot built-in authentication), and the same customer is NOT also suspended on the DHCPatriot system, the customer will have indefinate access to the network without updating his credentials. The background authentication is not properly processing returns from the RADIUS server and, as such, is not automatically suspending customers.

Let me stress that this does NOT affect the web page authentication. If a customer is suspended on the DHCPatriot system itself as well as RADIUS, they will not be able to authenticate successfully at the web page. This means that those who are following normal procedures for suspending customers are likely not affected by this bug.

We feel that this bug is severe enough to warrant a hotfix. We will be rapidly deploying a fix to repair this bug. Very minor code changes are in the hotfix, so a beta cycle is not needed. We will be contacting DHCPatriot system owners throughout today, Monday Febuary 25 2008 to install this hotfix. Most systems can be patched live during normal business hours. The changes in version 4.1.3 CALEA (HOTFIX) are as follows:

# Version 4.1.3 fixes the following:
# Release Month-Year: February 2008 (HOTFIX)
# 1) Repaired logic problem that prevented users whose authentication had failed
during subsequent online sessions from being suspended. Please note that this
DID NOT affect the web based authentication. This only affected people who
were suspended, had a password change, or username change on the RADIUS server
and were NOT suspended on the DHCPatriot system and who had already authenticated
at the web page. These users would have been able to continue to use the internet
	indefinately with verison 4.1.2.
# 2) Performance enhancement to log gathering. DHCP and system logs are now only inserted
every 15 seconds. This should greatly enhance performance on systems with abusive
DHCP users. This feature was set to emerge in version 4.2.0, but due to the above
hotfix was rolled into this version.
# 3) System log viewer performance issue was corrected also.

As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have...
